How to Place an Order in MT5

Review every field before submitting a practice order.

QB Academy: market knowledge and trading education

Open an order ticket

Select the intended symbol and open a new order ticket. Confirm you are connected to a demo account while learning.

Choose volume and order type

Check the volume, execution type and trade direction. A market order seeks execution at available prices; a pending order depends on its specified trigger and execution rules.

Review protective instructions

If supported, enter stop-loss and take-profit levels. Minimum distances and valid levels depend on the symbol and order type. A stop instruction does not guarantee a specific exit price.

Check the result

After submission, inspect the platform’s response, positions and order history. Confirm whether the instruction was filled, rejected or remains pending. Do not repeatedly click because a response seems delayed.

Frequently asked

Does clicking submit guarantee a fill?
